Action Nat and the Cat is an animated series about a 6 year old Filipina girl and her cat as they go on adventures with friends and family. Written by 12-year-old Natalie, the show is designed to help kids understand the realities of our world today and also help kids cultivate important life skills.
As a response to the developing situation, our producers hosted an "Action Nat and the Cat Takes Action" Town Hall with our young Black and Brown cast members, their parents, a few members of our crew, a licensed clinical social worker, an attorney, and a child psychologist.
This week, the Action Nat’s platform continued to create content to help educate and inform both parents and kids.
As a response to the developing situation, our producers hosted an "Action Nat and the Cat Takes Action" Town Hall with our young Black and Brown cast members, their parents, a few members of our crew, a licensed clinical social worker, an attorney, and a child psychologist. Topics include the definitions of some powerful words kids are hearing including "Racism", "Protest vs. Riot", and "Say Their Names.” Action Nat also spoke to kid cast members about their personal experiences, fears, and learn what to do when you're arrested or lost in a crowd.
The Town Hall’s celebrity fueled cast includes Christian Isaiah from Showtime’s Shameless and his mom, brother and sister Micah Abbey from Grey’s Anatomy and Nickelodeon’s Cousins for Life and CeCe Abbey aka Ruby Rails and can be seen on the girl powered YouTube Channel GoldieBlox and their mom, Elle Sinio daughter of Edgar "Artek606” Sinio, music producer for Apl.de.Ap and The Black Eyed Peas and more.
We hope this very special town hall helps address the fears of children and parents and provides answers and resources to help us work through this all.

Parents and teachers are faced with the challenge of discussing an ever-evolving pandemic outbreak with young children. 12-year-old Natalie had an idea, and wrote a story to help explain COVID-19. Animators, producers, directors, celebrities and more got together and developed the PSA to help the conversation.
Our entire Nat & the Cat PSA was filmed, animated and produced with an epic team, all done remotely. The cast and crew never broke quarantine and every element of the film was done through Zoom, Facebook, text, FaceTime and phone calls.
Our cast and crew is very diverse in terms of ethnicity, religion, gender, orientation. Action Nat Film Co is here to break stereotypes teaching life skills and helping kids make sense of and understand disabilities and disorders.
Natalie Munez is the 12-year-old behind the Nat & the Cat stories. Just a few months ago Natalie had her first photography show hosted and sponsored by Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, where all the big TV shows film, including Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Empire, Next, and more. She's been promoted by the Illinois Film Office, Reel Chicago, and The Jam in Chicago.
You might know Christian Isaiah as "Liam Gallagher" from Showtime’s iconic award-winning show “Shameless.” He also can be seen as Young Andre in 21 Bridges, and Young Tupac Shakur in USA’s series “Unsolved.”
Elle Sinio is an eleven year old girl from California, who's done voice over and commercials. She is Filipino-American and aspires to be a great actor and artist some day.
Micah Abbey has joined the cast for Episode 2 as one of Nat's classmates and the voice of Liam!
Micah has been acting and modeling since he was 4yr old. He moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to pursue his dream as an actor. He has done numerous commercial and has also been on Nickelodeon: Cousins For Life, Disney’s Mack Chat and Frankie Baner on ABC’s Grey's Anatomy.
Cece Abbey is 14 and lives in Los Angeles. She can be seen on the girl powered YouTube Channel Goldie Blox, encouraging young girls to explore interests STEM. Other credits include Raven's Home (Disney), Smoketown (TBN), and a few films. She loves to read, sing, write poetry, photography, hanging with friends and keep up on all the fashion trends. She has a passion for advocacy for women and African American equality. She has been making videos since she was nine, and began formal education of digital media at age twelve. Cece's goal is to pursue a career in production and editing with both others' as well as her own creative ideas.
Mikayla is a 7th grader from Chicago, IL. She is one of Natalie's closest friends. A creative at heart, Mikayla enjoys singing and can hit all the high notes in the Frozen soundtrack.
Hudson plays Justin, one of Nat's classmates in episode 2. Hudson is an 11-year-old student who inspires to be an engineer. His passion in engineering started at a very young age. Hudson was featured during our Saturday morning cartoon debut as he made the news by making mask extenders for first responders with his 3D printer.
Harper is a 10-year-old who inspires to be a singing actress one day. She is very involved with school plays as well as her local children's theatre staring in productions like Disney Dreaming, The Christmas Carol, Snow White and more. She is also a competitive cheerleader and loves to sing and dance.
Tom Franco is an American actor and artist who founded the Berkeley’s Firehouse Art Collective. As an actor, he has contributed to a number of successful films and documentaries including ‘The Disaster Artist’, ‘Metamorphosis: Junior Year’ and ‘Basket Case 2’. Born in Palo Alto, California to a writer and an entrepreneur, Franco developed a love for painting in his childhood. He majored in fine art from University of California, Santa Cruz and later enrolled at California College of the Arts to study ceramics. Shortly after, collaborated with some of his coursemates to launch Firehouse Art Collective.
Gabrielle Ruiz has joined Action Nat's cast for episode two. Gabrielle can be seen as Valencia on The CW's new critically acclaimed musical comedy, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. You can also catch her on Alone Together, Orange Is The New Black, Law & Order: SVU and Sesame Street. She was last seen on Broadway in If/Then with Idina Menzel, Evita with Ricky Martin, and In The Heights with Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Becca Julia Brown plays Nat's Tita. She also sings the theme song for the show. Becca Brown is an LA-based actor, musician, comedian, producer and writer from Chicago. She's been playing music since she was 4 years old. In the 4th grade, Becca performed on the NPR show From the Top, which eventually led to her being discovered and cast in the 2003 film School of Rock. Since her acting debut, Becca has been a prominent force in Chicago's music and theater scenes. She has worked with The Second City in Chicago on several sketch revues and has performed improv, sketch, and stand-up at iO, The Hollywood Improv, The Laugh Factory, Club Cumming and Las Culturistas' I Don't Think So Honey! Live.
The Narrator is played by Chicago actress, Thea Camara. You may know here from Spike Lee's Chi Raq, Chicago Med, 72 Hours starring opposite Harry Lennix, and more.
Steffen Diem Garcia comes from film and music production and has been acting for about seven years. Steffen worked in radio before landing in film, although he considers this his voice acting debut. Behind the scenes he is helping with character development, cutting, shooting, lighting and editing thousands of pictures that make up the Action Nat universe. Originally from Southern California he now resides in Chicago, IL with his wife Marianna Garcia.
Bi Nguyen, aka Killer Bee is an MMA fighter who is a huge supporter of girls empowerment and a healthy lifestyle.
Nat’s teacher, Mr. Thomas is played by Writer, Producer, and Actor, Danny Froze. In Episode 1 he can be seen Zooming with the class as his daughter graciously interrupts in the background. In Episode 2, he sends the kids into the field trip. Froze produced an indie film starring Jamal Woolard, Korporate, and Donterio Hundon that played to packed houses. He currently tours with recording artist Playboi Carti.
Kiko Sanchez has acted in film projects such as: "A Million Ways to Die in the West"; a national commercial directed by Frank Coraci (Happy Madison Productions); and, most recently, a feature film called "Monday," directed by Alejandro Montoya and produced by Robert Rodriguez. Kiko has established a good reputation within the New Mexico film community through his hard work and willingness to roll up his sleeves and get the job done. Kiko trains exclusively with Carla Garcia at AMAW New Mexico to learn acting for film and tv, and with Marie McMaster for audition technique.
Michael McNerney has covered the gamut in the entertainment world, from commercial voice talent, to disc jockey to owning a recording studio, to Assistant Directing network TV and major feature films. Since every creative drop must be squeezed to appreciate accomplishment, Michael also licenses his photographic works and plays the guitar for fun and worthwhile projects.
Armond Bennett plays "Joseph", the father of Liam and Cecilia in episode 2. In his real life, Armond is a father of 4 (including a brand-new newborn!) who regularly documents his fatherhood on social media. Armond made headlines in 2014 for being shot in the head by a police officer after a traffic stop in NOLA. His family’s social media documents a series of special everyday moments from vacations, athletics, and playdates to share the possibilities only you/we can make transpire by learning to appreciate the life you've been given. Terri Lynne Hudson is an actress, performer, and disability activist in Chicago, IL. and plays the roll of Cherri in Episode 2. Cherri is a tour guide who gives the students a lesson about her disabilities. Hudson was born with spina bifida, which among other things, greatly affects her mobility. She hosts a podcast called Who Dis' which discusses access for disabled theatre performers, stereotypes of disabled people and people of color in the media, and the barriers, both physical and mental, of finding work as a disabled actor.
Mary Angela Munez has spent the last 7 years working on major studio projects, including Batwoman, Shameless, and the 2020 remake of Candyman.
Her focus has turned to producing quality independent films that promote people of color and empower women and children. As a Philippine-born woman, her mission is to leverage her knowledge and resources to help promote meaningful stories and provide opportunities to marginalized communities.
Mary owns GoLucky Studios, a film and event production company based in Chicago.
Jonathan Becker is an established director and executive producer in Chicago and Los Angeles. For over twenty years he has been bringing stories to the screen through his work in film, documentaries, broadcast commercials, music videos, branded-digital content, public service announcements and more. From 2015-2018, Becker worked for Leo Burnett’s production studio, Greenhouse. He now is focusing efforts as a freelance producer and continues to work on projects all over the US.
Recent clients and brand partners include Bridgestone, Firestone, Nintendo, All State, Kellogg’s, Nissan, Tabasco, Pedigree, Oracle and Capital One.
Marianna Garcia is the director of animation and specializes in stop motion. Her style for this piece is "handmade mixed media". She's self-taught and has been working on stop motion on and off since about 2007. Her background is in theatre, film and education. She has directed, acted and produced almost one hundred plays and has been working in the film industry for about four years. Originally from New Mexico, Marianna currently lives with her husband in Chicago, IL.
Edgar "Artek" Sinio produced the theme song for "Action Nat & the Cat." Sinio is a Record Producer, Composer, Sound Engineer, and Sound Designer from Chicago Illinois. Currently in Los Angeles, working directly with Apl.de.Ap, The Black Eyed Peas, J. Rey Soul, and many other notable artists worldwide.

Bill Sloyer worked in television production for 15 years before pivoting to post-production sound design. He began his career at MTV News & Docs, working in production management on shows including the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Cribs, before moving on to freelance for Mac Miller & the Most Dope Family, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and Finding Bigfoot. When not designing sound, he enjoys traveling with his wife, playing with their dogs, and biking in the mountains around Los Angeles.
Action Nat & the Cat song lyrics were provided by Daniel French, French is an award-winning broadcaster and podcaster who started his path in radio at the Mighty 690 WTIX in New Orleans, Louisiana. While rising through the ranks as a board operator, writer, and producer, French found himself as morning drive co-host at one of the most critical points in that city's history, during Hurricane Katrina, an experience that would color the rest of career. It was a stark reminder that broadcasters can still have a civic responsibility to discern truth from fiction and that the time to be at one's best is when the rest of civil order is crumbling.
Daniel moved to Chicago in 2009 to work on the nationally syndicated “Mancow Radio Experience,” first as team coordinator and then as executive producer for the radio program and, later, “Mancow TV.”
John Terereick is a Chicago based film director, editor & producer. Since graduating from Columbia College in 2015, he has dedicated his time to working in narrative film, advertising and music videos and working as a content creator for Leo Burnett’s in-house production group, Greenhouse for 2 years. In 2019, Terereick teamed up with filmmaker, Jake Nokovic to begin a directing duo called: coool.

Chris Scudder is a Chicago based editor and content creator. Since 2015 Chris has been working for Leo Burnett’s in-house production group Greenhouse, now formally called The Pub Chicago. Working with brands such as Nintendo, Firestone, Miller Coors, McDonalds, Kraft Heinz and UHC, Chris has helped create mindful and dynamic advertisements that span across TV and OLV.
